Carpet Cleaning FAQ — San Bernardino, CA

Common questions from homeowners in San Bernardino and the surrounding area. If your question isn't here, call us and we'll give you a straight answer.

How long until the carpet is dry and we can walk on it again?

Plan on four to six hours in most San Bernardino homes, and often less. Our summers run over 100F with low humidity, so a July living room can be dry in three. Winter is slower because the rain comes then and the air holds moisture, so figure closer to eight hours if we clean during a storm week. You can walk on damp carpet in clean socks right away; wait until it feels dry before you put heavy furniture back on it.

What does a cleaning appointment actually look like from arrival to finish?

We start by walking the rooms with you, noting the spots you care about and checking what the carpet is made of. Then we vacuum, treat traffic lanes and stains with a pre-spray, and let that sit while we set up. Hot-water extraction comes next, slow passes with the wand, followed by dry strokes to pull out as much water as the machine will take. We groom the pile, set air movers where the room needs them, and show you the result before we pack up.

Hot-water extraction, shampooing, dry cleaning: what's the difference?

Hot-water extraction pushes heated solution into the pile and vacuums it back out. It pulls the most soil and it is what we use on nearly every job, including the fine foothill dust and wildfire ash that works down into the backing. Shampooing uses a rotary brush and foam; it can brighten a matted commercial carpet but it leaves residue behind, so we rarely recommend it for a home. Dry cleaning spreads an absorbent compound and brushes it in, and it has one real use: delicate wool or a space that cannot be out of service for even a few hours.

How often should carpet be cleaned?

Once a year works for a quiet household with no pets. Around here, most homes do better at eight to ten months. Decomposed granite, alluvial sand and fine dust blow off the foothills and wash fans, and Santa Ana wind events drive desert grit down the Cajon Pass and straight through door gaps. Add a dog, kids, or smoke season and two cleanings a year keeps the pile from grinding itself down.

What makes one carpet cleaning cost more than another?

Square footage is the base, but the things that move the number are the condition and the layout. Wall-to-wall through a slab-on-grade ranch cleans faster per foot than the same area chopped into small bedrooms and a hallway. Pet urine changes the job because it means subsurface treatment, not just a surface pass. Long-neglected traffic lanes, heavy ash loading after a fire season, stairs, and delicate wool like Karastan or Masland all add time. The estimate is free and we give you the full number in writing first.

Do you move the furniture?

Yes, within reason. Sofas, chairs, coffee tables, dining sets and light dressers we move and put back on blocks or tabs. We leave beds with the frame in place, pianos, large entertainment centers, aquariums and anything on a wall mount. If you want under a bed cleaned, clear it before we arrive and we will get it. Taking small items, lamps and electronics off surfaces ahead of time saves time on the clock.

Be honest: what will and won't lift out of the fibers?

Dirt, dust, grease, food spills, most pet accidents, coffee, mud and smoke film usually come out. Stainmaster and other treated nylons release soil well even after years of use. What fights back is anything that dyed or burned the fiber: bleach spots, benzoyl peroxide from acne cream, iodine, some red drink dyes, rust, and sun fade along a south window. Old urine that reached the pad may clean up and still leave a shadow. We tell you which category a spot is in before we start, not after.

Is this safe with a dog in the house and a toddler on the floor?

Yes. The products we use are made for occupied homes and we rinse thoroughly, which matters more than the label does. Residue is what attracts dirt and bothers sensitive noses, so we extract until the water comes back clean. Keep pets and kids out of the room while the wand is running, mostly because of hoses and cords. Once the carpet is dry, the room is back to normal.

Can you take care of sofas, area rugs or tile on the same visit?

We do upholstery, area rugs and tile with grout, and it is cheaper to combine them into one trip. Upholstery gets a tool sized for the fabric and a gentler solution than the floor sees. Area rugs we usually clean in place; wool and anything with fringe gets hand attention. Tile and grout need a turbo tool and a rinse, and in homes on the valley floor the grout lines hold a surprising amount of that fine blown dust. Mention it when you book so we bring the right attachments.

Can you come today, and how far out do you go?

Same-day slots open up most weekdays, especially mornings. Call early and we will tell you straight whether we can reach you before evening instead of stringing you along. We cover San Bernardino and out across the east end of the Inland Empire, from the valley floor up toward the foot of the San Bernardino Mountains, roughly 60 miles east of Los Angeles. Rentals and multi-family turnovers in the city core are a regular part of our week, so tight move-out timing is not a problem.
